- - Memebox | Special #52: Wonderful Treasure Finds (WTF) Review - -

Hello, Hello!

I've gotten a few Memeboxes since my last Memebox (pronounced as "Me-me-box") review, but it's only now that I actually have the time to sit down for a few hours and tell you guys about one box I've been particularly excited about.

For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Memebox is an online Korean beauty retailer that in addition to carrying their own product line as well as ones from other brands, offers boxes curated around different themes. The great thing about these curated Memeboxes is that you get to discover a vast variety of Korean beauty products. After the shipping fee most boxes go for about $20-$30 (look at the end of this post for discount codes!).

It was in November that Memebox released their Special #52 box titled Wonderful Treasure Finds or WTF for short. The box cost $23.00 (US) with a shipping fee of $6.99. I used a $5 off coupon so my grand total was about $24.99.

The box came in the iconic pink and sturdy Memebox packaging. Instead of a little gift icon as with last time, there was a black box on top this time.

There is always an in-depth info card that comes with each box. Since most of the product packaging is in Korean, it helps to have a guide to go by.

The products:

 * Please note that all of the prices are in US dollars.*

1 | Comedo AC Power Serum (Skindeco)
      (FULL SIZE: $36.00 for 50 g)

Ever thought of slathering high concentrates of anticancer ginger and garlic extracts on your skin? Well, Skindeco did and came up with this unique power serum enriched with a blend of ginger and garlic which softens roughened skin texture and removes excessive oil and dirt clogging up the pores, for a healthier, more glowing complexion.

I got sidetracked while writing in the description for the Skindeco serum because the phrase "anticancer ginger" caught my eye. Upon checking out more information on the web I discovered that apparently ginger has an array of benefits.

As always, more studies need to be conducted, but for the time being ginger has been found to be particularly good at reducing nausea, inflammation, headaches, and tumours - the latter of which has been successfully confirmed by experiments with mice.

If interested, you can check out this and this page for more information about ginger.

Back to the Power Serum! Serums are typically the step you should have in your skincare routine right after a toner. They are a finer-molecule base product, which means that serums absorb quicker and go deeper into the skin. By treating the bottom layers of skin, you will see your skin improve greatly after it starts to regenerate in 15-28 days.

If I didn't look at the description that Memebox has provided on the description card, I probably wouldn't have been able to pinpoint that the Skindeco serum has ginger and garlic extracts in it (okay, maybe I would've recognized the ginger). That goes to show you how light the fragrance really is. The serum is completely clear and as well as absorbing quickly, it leaves the skin feeling soft. As an added benefit, this product is supposed to help brighten the skin.

I currently use a serum from The Face Shop's Calming Seed line, so I'll probably just pass this serum along to my mom.

2 | Mr. Smile Patch (Tonymoly)
      (FULL SIZE: $2.00 for 10 g)

This hydrogel type patch formulated with black secret complex - blueberry, black bean, black sesame seed, and mulberry extracts - effectively smooth out and firm up the skin along your smile lines.

The packaging and the design earn brownie points for me! These patches are supposed to help diminish the appearance of smile lines. I tried these out earlier in the month and here's what they look like on:

Fun, no? :{D

I can't really say that I noticed a difference after having these on. I don't really have very defined smile lines though, so someone with deeper set lines would probably see better results.

3 | BMS Cure Cream (Elinette)
(FULL SIZE: $65.00 for 50 mL)

Free of parabens and alcohol, this facial cream is formulated through BMS technology which boosts the function of antioxidants and minerals to stimulate skin turnover. It also works to soften, soothe, moisturize, nourish, and firm up dehydrated, sagging skin. You'll be able to experience a visual difference with continuous application of the Cure Cream.

For me this was quite easily the least exciting product in the WTF box. On paper this seems like an amazing product - an anti-aging moisturizer that helps with lifting, hydration, soothing, and is free of parabens and alcohol. What more could you ask for?

In practice, I have a difficult time using this cream mainly because I am completely turned off by its smell. It's just a really odd scent.

In addition to that, for the most part I dislike getting moisturizers in boxes because everyone's skin type is different and I'm too afraid to switch over to something completely new after using my tried and true moisturizer.

What will I do with this? I have yet to decide.

I did find this link here that shows that this cream may help people with Atopy in their skin. See what you can make of that link if you get the chance.

4 | Air Waterdrop Cooling Hand Cream Snow Blossom (Mumur)
      (FULL SIZE: $9.00 for 50 g)

A light-weight, moisturizing hand cream which instantly melts onto skin with a silky soft finish. What's so unique about this product is that it creates dew-like water drops when massages over skin as if a snow flake has melted on your hands. It's also packed with hyaluronic acid and completely free of paraben, ethanol, benzophenon, artificial coloring, and artificial fragrance.

This was hands down the most awesome treasure find in this box! Here is why - this hand cream goes on like a gel but once you rub it in, it turns into water!

The hand cream doesn't have any fragrance and leaves hands soft and moisturized. I was so excited about this hand cream that I was showing it around at both of my jobs for two days. It's just so cool!

Ugh, Memebox, why can't you sell the products that are found in your boxes on your website? What am I going to do when I run out of this?

5 | Play Choux in 02 Lemon Choux (Dearberry)
(FULL SIZE: $13.00 for 30 mL)

This lightweight, skin perfecting primer helps create a smooth, even canvas for foundation. It color corrects for a range of complexion concerns, especially sallowness, dehydration, and saggy skin so that makeup glides on evenly and stays true for a healthy, even-toned start. The Lemon Choux specifically works to brighten up dull, uneven complexion while the Peach Choux works to add a healthy light-from-within glow to the skin.

First off - I can't get enough of the scent of this product! It smells like a gentle and wonderful lotion that I would like to just slather (see description for the Power Serum) all over my face.

This is essentially a makeup primer that has shimmer in it. I'm sure you can apply it either by put it on first or mix it in with your foundation or BB cream. The shimmer is supposed to brighten up your face and give you a healthy glow.

Unfortunately, I'm very simple with makeup - I don't tend to use any kind of foundation of BB cream, so I'm not really sure if I can find use for this product.

6 | Dead Sea Salt Pearl Natural Soap (Bath Charm Store)
      (FULL SIZE: $6.00 for 100 g)

A 100% natural soap make from dead sea salt, pearl powder, shea butter, hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil, lavender essential oil, and rose fragrance. This gentle formula helps brighten up dulled complexion and is perfect for treating troubled, sensitive skin.

I'm one of those people who hates taking things that look lovely out of their packaging and actually using them. Therefore I can't tell you about the scent of this soap or how effective it is in living up to its claim of brightening dull-looking skin.

What I CAN do is show you is a picture of what the soap looks like when it's out of its packaging:

Isn't it awesome?? And don't you just love that a brightening product that contains pearl powder is in the shape of a clam...with a pearl?

7 | Capsule Tok Soothing Gel (Yadah)
(FULL SIZE: $11.00 for 200 mL)

The visible green aloe vera capsules soothe and moisturize skin while the yellow vitamin capsules rejuvenates and brightens up complexion as they melt onto skin. A blend of aloe vera water, green tea extracts, and cactus flower extracts effectively cools and soothes stimulated skin and leaves it moist and nurtured. Also, witch hazel water and lotus extracts work together to treat and firm up clogged pores.

What fascinates me about this product is it's multipurposeness.

The instructions talk about how you can add some sugar and voila! - you've got a natural body scrub. Mix this gel into a hair treatment formula and you've got a hair treatment. As if that's not enough, you can mix the gel with your BB cream to have an effective makeup base. I don't think I've come across such a versatile product before.

Today I came across a review of the same box from Becky of Coffee, Beauty and Life, who says that she keeps this gel in the fridge since that gives the product a nice cooling effect when she uses it. I think that's pretty brilliant and I shall try that as well!

|| Total Value: $142 US ||

All in all, I'm pretty impressed with this box! It's quite easily one of my favourite boxes so far.

Since I'm having a tough time finding the actual product pages for the items in this box, I have to rely on the prices Memebox has included. All of the products are full-size, which is really nice, so I won't be surprised if the more expensive items are in fact correct in price.

I really hope that Memebox comes out with more boxes like these - I'll keep you guys informed just in case they do. :)
