Hello again!
One of the things that made 2020 a little brighter for many anime fans (myself included) was the Sailor Moon x ColourPop collaboration that was released in February. The collection features 9 pieces: 2 glitter gels, 2 blushes, 4 liquid lipsticks (2 glossy & 2 matte), and an eyeshadow palette.
This has been ColourPop's most popular collection to date and it's easy to see why - many people grew up watching Sailor Moon. When I was younger, Sailor Moon was the inspiration behind many short stories and a small (totally unofficial) book I wrote. Nostalgia, take my money!
The Sailor Moon collection sold out (so quickly) a few times before I was able to purchase anything. Luckily, I was finally able to get my hands on the Pretty Guardian Shadow Palette and that is what I wanted to talk a little bit about today.
The eyeshadow palette comes in sturdy cardboard packaging, which is roughly 13cm x 10.3cm in size. It's a little smaller than I expected but ColourPop palettes don't seem to be that big to begin with.
There is a total of 12 eyeshadows with a variety of finishes (matte, metallic, foiled, and Super Shock).
Overall, the palette is quite nice. There are a few neutral shades - out of which Shining Moon is my favourite because it has just the right amount of shimmer to not be overwhelming. There are also 4 bolder shades and a few in-between colours. Silver Crystal is a beautiful rosy shade and it reminds me of Three Little Words from Morphe's 35V Stunning Vibes Artistry Palette.
The one colour that I'm surprised ColourPop didn't include in this palette is blue. After all, blue is such a prominent colour in several of Usagi/Serena's iconic outfits.
In any case, the colours that were included have pretty good staying power - they can easily last throughout the day. The colour payoff is great too - you will get a strong colour with just one swipe. I did notice a bit of fallout when applying the glitter/shimmer shades.
The last thing I want to mention about the Pretty Guardian palette is that there are 3 pressed powders that ColourPop warns (on the back of its packaging) are "not intended for use in the immediate eye area." These colours are: Mare Serenitatis, Tuxedo Rose, and Miracle Romance.
ColourPop's disclaimer is a bit confusing because although the packaging does not say anywhere that this is an eyeshadow palette, on the website the palette is listed under "Eyeshadow Palettes."
Pressed powders with glitter can be dangerous if used around the eye area because flakes can cause irritation, tearing, and infection. Visually, you can see that Mare Serenitatis is fully made up of large glitter pieces. In contrast, Tuxedo Rose has a small amount of shimmer (much like Shining Moon) while Miracle Romance seems like it's completely matte.
I'm not sure why ColourPop singled out Tuxedo Rose and Miracle Romance, but please exercise caution if you've decided to use any of the 3 shades I mentioned above.

As of this publishing, the Sailor Moon x ColourPop collection is still available here.
Thank you for reading! 💙
